**Job Summary**
Performs the delegated nursing interventions to the stable dialysis patient under direct supervision of the registered nurse. This may include but not limited to; initiation of dialysis, monitoring patient during treatments, discontinuing treatments, proper operation of the dialysis equipment, gathering and documenting pertinent patient information, and responding to alarms. Position SummaryAs a Dialysis Technician, you will play a vital role in the life-saving care we provide to patients living with kidney disease. Working alongside nurses, dietitians, and physicians, you will prepare and monitor dialysis treatments, support patient comfort and safety, and build meaningful relationships with patients who rely on dialysis several times per week.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare, test, and operate dialysis equipment according to patient prescriptions and safety standards.
Inspect and prepare vascular access sites; perform cannulation and initiate/discontinue dialysis treatments.
Monitor patient vitals and treatment parameters, making adjustments under the direction of a licensed nurse.
Obtain blood samples via dialysis lines or access sites as ordered.
Administer medications related to dialysis treatment, including Heparin, local anesthetics, and Normal Saline.
Respond promptly to dialysis-related emergencies, including assisting with CPR when needed.
Follow strict infection control practices, including proper PPE use, station sanitization, and isolation precautions.
Perform water system checks, documentation, and respond appropriately if parameters fall outside of defined limits.
Participate in training, mentoring, and orientation of new dialysis technicians.
Document all care accurately using electronic health record systems.

**Qualifications**
High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) is required.
One-year experience in a health care environment is preferred. Dialysis experience preferred. Knowledge of various equipment/supplies and its general use, medical terminology, and computer skills preferred.
Must possess or obtain certification as a Hemodialysis Technician from the National Nephrology Certification Commission (NNCC), the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT), or other approved certifying agency within 18 months of hire.
If working in North Dakota (ND) must be on the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) Registry through the Board of Nursing at the time employment begins.
If working in South Dakota (SD), must register as Unlicensed Dialysis Technician through the SD Board of Nursing once certification is received (within 18 months).
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required through the American Heart.
